Top 5 Tips To Drop Your Scores

Hey Everyone!

By now I'd hope that you are out enjoying this wonderful spring weather! As we enter into the season I thought I'd throw out some of the tips I use to drop my scores.

#1. Treat Your Practice Sessions As If You're On The Course

The key to playing well on the golf course is rehearsing hitting the same types of shots out on the range. Choose a target, visualize your shot shape, and take a practice swing that emulates the shot you're trying to hit. Yes, the range is a great place to warmup, but the range is also your best friend, a place to hit shots that don't count toward your score ;)

#2. Alignment Alignment Alignment

Ones alignment out on the golf course is the key to hitting the ball where you intend for it to go. When I am out on the course I try to find a leaf, mark, divot or marking to get lined up to a few feet in front of my golf ball. (Its much easier to get lined up to something 3 feet in front of you than it is a 150 stake.) Make sure you are checking your alignment while you are practicing!

#3. Think About The Shot, Not How To Hit It

You're probably wondering what does that even mean? Take a look at your lie, find your distance, check the wind, choose a spot if you were to mishit. As you're playing these thoughts will not only allow for you to hit great golf shots, they will keep those pesky swing thoughts out!

#4. Have A Plan

There is a time and place to mark all you're putts, and read the green from all angles, and take an extra practice swing. The plan I'm talking about is the one before you head out to play. Set some goals! Here are a few great examples:

#1. I will hit ________ Fairways out of ________.

#2. I will hit ________ Greens out of ________.

#3. I will have ________ Putts.

Set your goals to lofty. We all know you want to play better golf but what does better mean... Make them measurable!

#5. Play The Game One Hole At A Time

4.5 hours is a long time to be out on the golf course and as players we often forget that! Once a stretch of holes doesn't exactly go our way we like think the round is over... Remember you set your goals and if they are measurable I would bet a few of this are still achievable! Have a short memory, stay humble with the great shots, and be quick to forget anything less because the only shot that matters is the next one!

I hope these tips help as you head out to play this year. If you have any questions or would like to hear more please feel free to reach out!

Cheers and I hope to see you out on the course.
